. . .a thin triangular flap of a heart valve. . . a small book usually having a paper cover . . . a medical lit-art e-journal from The Permanente Press
I connect this painting, as a medical metaphor, with my watercolor "Diagnostic Wave," which I described as being like a "diagnosis overwhelming a patient's life, indifferent to what lies in its path, but itself transient in cosmic terms". The painting depicted here, "After the Diagnosis," uses the a turbulent sea as a metaphor for the ongoing turbulence and disquiet in a patient's life after the initial shock of a bad diagnosis has settled. The sea holds a deep a fascination for me as a watercolorist in terms of its changing shapes, multifarious colors and lighting - and for its potential metaphorical associations.
